Find your strength
Not sure which strength you need? Our reading chart takes about two minutes at home. Print it, hold it at reading distance, and it tells you which strength to choose.
- A printer and A4 paper
- A ruler
- Good light
- Two minutes
How to use it
-
Print it at actual size
In your print settings choose 100% or “Actual size”, not “Fit to page”. Resizing the chart changes the size of the text and the result.
-
Check the scale
Measure the short line at the top of the chart. It should be 2.5cm (1 inch) long. If it isn’t, adjust your print settings and print it again.
-
Hold it at reading distance
Take off any glasses you’re wearing, find good light, and hold the chart about 35cm (14 inches) from your face.
-
Find your line
Read down the chart. Each line is smaller than the one above. Find the first line you can’t read clearly: the strength beside it is the one to choose.
A preview of the layout. Use the printed chart for your result: screens vary in size, so reading it on screen won’t give an accurate strength.
A guide, not an eye test
The chart helps you choose ready-made reading glasses. It doesn’t check the health of your eyes. If your sight has changed suddenly, if you need different strengths for each eye, or if it’s been more than two years since your last eye test, book one with an optician.
Found your strength?
Our reading glasses come in strengths from +1.0 to +3.5.
